Have you ever thought about why people are so different? Despite the fact that our world-view depends on the place where we were raised, our traditions and moral norms, we all have one thing in common - our love and respect for each other.  I am a student at University for the Creative Arts, currently finished Access to Higher Education Diploma in Art & Design. My next step is Fashion Atelier course at the same university and hopefully a work experience with my favorite designers in the future. I wanted to challenge myself for my Final Major Project and decide to make a bespoke tailored jacket with zero skills of tailoring. Actually, I never did a garment from scratch before, except the leather skirt which was pretty easy.  I still have a long way to go, but for now, let me tell you a short love story through my garments. She was just a girl traveling in time, trying to discover a world where her heart would sing again. A baroque-inspired faux leat...

I am an Immigrant

Image
I am an immigrant and I am not afraid to feel weird over here. Inspiration The idea of my project came from the  "Itself collection: Self-portrait as the Billy Goat"   exhibition, which I visited during the summer holidays, in London, Whitechapel gallery. The way Pawel Althamer portrayed himself I found it very melancholic and unique. Every single detail seem to have told me the way creator felt in his inner world - lost, thoughtful and a bit dramatic. Just because of the feeling I felt by looking at Billy Goats, I decide that I want to show my inner world and hide my identity under my inner mask.  Experience During all my years of immigration, I faced with intolerance, discrimination, nationalism. It was not something that happened often, but such moments make me feel different. My travel experience has shown me that people around the world have different culture, habits, beliefs, customs and worldview. Depending on t...

DIY Modern Elizabethan Ruffle

Image
A ruff one of the more accentric garments of the Elizabethan Era, worn in Western Europe from the mid-sixteenth century to the mid-seventeenth century. I have always found a ruff as a luxury detail in outfit. So I wanted to try to make one for my project. Just because I choose to use a leather, I thought my ruff should be big enough ( length 35cm ) to show all the beauty of the fabric. I have been considering to use real or faux leather, but faux leather seems to be easier to sew and it is lighter. 1. Measure your desired width. I measured 35 cm, as I wanted to have pretty wide ruff. 2. How much fabric do you need ?  I used formula : Width of the neck x Lenght of fabric used for 1cm pleats   (Check how many pleats can fit in 1cm and then measure used leather for it. I fit 3 pleats in 1cm which were equal to 31 cm of material.) My neck measurement - 33cm. The leather length used for 1cm - 31cm. 33x31=1023cm.  So my fabric Length - 1...
